After her loss to SmackDown women’s champion Liv Morgan at SummerSlam, Ronda Rousey was “suspended,” which means she isn’t allowed out of her dressing room. She slipped into the audience because she isn’t technically supposed to be there. She dumped double the amount of money she was “fined” in the storyline on the table set for Morgan and friend Shayna Baszler’s contract signing. It was a bold move, demonstrating strength and authority to say, “I’m better than and richer than all of you here.” She’s earned the right to feel confident and believes in herself, especially after all she’s accomplished in her judo and MMA career. With Triple H now running creative, she’ll likely get even more freedom, which is something that has been missing in the past.
Rousey is one of the most interesting people in WWE right now because she’s unapologetically herself. She doesn’t try to be someone she’s not, and she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She’s also shown that she’s willing to put in the work to learn the wrestling business and become a better performer. WWE could learn a lot from her about how to book strong women.
Rousey is at her best when she’s allowed to be herself, and that’s what WWE should continue to allow her to do. If they do, they’ll have one of the most interesting and entertaining Superstars on their hands.
