The WWE announced Ronda Rousey’s suspension for attacking a WWE official in the aftermath of her SummerSlam match against Liv Morgan on Saturday.
What happened at WWE SummerSlam?
At WWE SummerSlam in Nashville, Ronda Rousey lost the women’s title match to Liv Morgan. In the aftermath of the match, Rousey appeared to take issue with referee Dan Engler’s apparent failure to notice Morgan tapping out.
Rousey grabbed the referee by the arm and flipped him over her shoulder and onto the ring’s floor, where she pinned him down until another official arrived in the ring to break the tussle up. Video of the incident shows Rousey appearing to be very angry as she is restrained by the other official.
As a result of Rousey’s actions, WWE has suspended her indefinitely. The company released an official statement noting that Rousey “has been fined an undisclosed amount and will be suspended.”
What does this mean for Ronda Rousey’s future with WWE?
Rousey’s suspension means that she will not be appearing on Friday Night SmackDown this week. It is unclear at this time how long her suspension will last.
In the past, WWE has used suspensions as a way to write performers off television for a period of time. It is possible that this is what the company has planned for Rousey. However, it is also possible that WWE could decide to bring her back on television sooner rather than later.

What did Ronda Rousey say about the situation on social media?
After the incident at SummerSlam, Rousey took to Instagram to post a series of photos from her match against Morgan. In the post’s caption, Rousey called out WWE, writing: “Hey @wwe if you guys could stop screwing me to put over your golden girls at every major ppv that’d be greaaaaaat”
Rousey also retweeted a Twitter post from WWE television host Greg Miller in which Miller accused Morgan of having “won the championship by taking advantage of the situation and retained it by being a cheating coward.”
This is not the first time that Rousey has been suspended by WWE. In June 2018, she was suspended for 30 days after attacking wrestler Alexa Bliss, Raw general manager Kurt Angle and multiple referees.
Rousey, who competed in judo at the 2008 Summer Olympics and worked as a professional mixed martial arts fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship in the 2010s, welcomed daughter La’akea Makalapuaokalanipō (aka Pō) with husband Travis Browne in September 2021. Rousey and Browne, who is also an MMA fighter, got married in Browne’s native Hawaii in August 2017.
What’s next for Rousey and the WWE?
Rousey’s suspension means that she will not be appearing on WWE television for the foreseeable future. It is unclear if or when she will return to the company. In the meantime, WWE will continue to showcase its other female superstars in her absence.
